Another pregnancy test, another negative result! We had been trying to get pregnant for a while and it just didn't seem to be happening.
Then at the end of August 2007 I remember feeling really ill. It never even crossed my mind that I could be pregnant. We were living in Chennai, India at the time and Penri was away in America for 10 days for work. I remember feeling so bad that I phoned my parents (even though it was about 1 o'clock in the morning). I had a raging fever and couldn't keep anything down (even water). My mum told me to go straight to the hospital.
I remember pulling on some clothes and dragging myself out the house. I don't remember driving to the hospital at all (it's quite a drive and takes about 20 to 25 minutes when there is no traffic on the road). I went to the emergency room and was seen by a doctor, who took my temperature and then gave me loads of antibiotics. I drove home, took the tablets and went to bed.
It was only a few days later when Penri got back that I thought 'maybe I'm pregnant'. I mentioned it to Penri and his reply was simply 'Do a test'. Anyone who's been trying to get pregnant for a while will know - you do the test (like you've done a hundred times before) and expect the negative result. So, when it was positive I could not believe it! I actually didn't believe it and did another test just to be sure. Then I made a doctor's appointment for the next day (28th August) and went to get it confirmed. It was positive!
I was absolutely over the moon and so was Penri. I had my first ultrasound on the 29the 29th August 2007 and I was 5-6 weeks pregnant.
